Peoples' Biodiversity Register
One of the main functions of the Biodiversity Management Committees(BMCs) is to prepare People’s Biodiversity Register(PBR) in consultation with local people. The Register shall contain comprehensive information on the local biological resources, their medicinal or any other use or any other traditional knowledge associated with them. PBR should serve as a component of the knowledge base for conservation, sustainable use and equitable sharing of benefits of biodiversity and it should also be used in maintenance and prudent management of ecosystems such as forests, rivers, lakes, grasslands, ponds etc. This will then enhance the public awareness of the significance of conservation, sustainable use and equitable sharing of benefits of biodiversity and to catalyse grass roots action.
The PBRs shall be maintained and validated by the respective BMCs.
Meghalaya Biodiversity Board has initiated the process for the preparation of 25 PBRs.
